And just like Reuben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Taylor Hicks and Jordin Sparks, Obama's moment will pass too. Reality will set in and our fickle populace, and particularly the youth movement, having moved on from soaring rhetoric, arena rallies and "I love you back" coolness, will start asking the questions that should have been asked before Obamamania swept the country.
And when they aren't enthralled with the answers, you can bet the throngs will toss Obama away, just as they have Edwards, Richardson, Dodd and Biden, all individuals with substantial resumes, connections in and out of Washington to get things done and real records of achievement.
Two weeks remain to ask the tough questions. These are serious times and this country needs a serious leader who is steeped in policy, grounded in reality, knows how to fight the upcoming battles and won't back down when the adulation wanes.
What we don't need is a neophyte. That's what we have American Idol for!
